The United States has announced plans to permit Qatar to construct an Air Force facility in Idaho.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced on Friday that Qatar will be permitted to construct an Air Force facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. The site will accommodate Qatari F-15 fighter jets and pilots who will train jointly with U.S. forces.

“The base will host a Qatari F-15 squadron and their pilots to strengthen our joint training, improve combat readiness, and enhance interoperability,” Hegseth said during a meeting with Qatari Defense Minister Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani at the Pentagon. “This is yet another example of our enduring partnership. Your Excellency, you can always count on the United States.”
The deal was announced just weeks after former President Trump signed an executive order guaranteeing U.S. security support for Qatar — a major commitment to a non-NATO Arab ally. The move followed an Israeli airstrike on Doha targeting Hamas officials residing there. However, sources told CNN that the plan for the new Qatari facility had been under development for years, tracing back to the previous administration.
A U.S. official emphasized that such agreements are standard practice, noting that the Air Force has long partnered with other allied nations, including Germany and Singapore, on similar initiatives.
